hi Andre thanks for the reply and information,

However i will like to find out as well how long can an engine stay on an engine stand after being rebuilt. The reason i ask is i've heard people say the oil you use to lubricate the parts during the build tends to run off while sitting there. Can you shed some light.

It is said when an engine is up in age and mileage the user should switch to a heavier weight oil, after that engine is rebuilt with new parts and all original clearances regained should the user go back to the OE oil specs ?

There isn't strictly a time frame for how long an engine can safely sit on an engine stand after assembly. The oil or assembly lubricant used during the assembly process for the most part will stay where you put it. The biggest concern if the engine will be stored for a very long period would be components that are dry beginning to rust from high humidity. This would very much depend on your ambient conditions.

A thicker oil can be used to account for worn bearings and can also help reduce oil consumption when the rings and bores are worn slightly. If you're rebuilding the engine and all of your clearances are correct then there's no specific reason to use a thicker than necessary oil. I do however often adjust the oil specification from what the factory recommend in some instances to suit a different use - For example the Subaru FA20 factory oil spec is 0W20 but I now use 10W40.

Thank you very much the info is greatly appreciated
