Just want to make sure I understood this correctly, big earth cable from battery to block and an earth strap from block to body. Then does there need to be a earth strap from body to battery or can this cause a back feed if battery to block earth fails?
There won't be a "back feed", but in some instances there can be a voltage potential difference between different points of the engine to chassis. This would be in the milli-volt, or even micro-volt range, but some electronics can be very sensitive.
In some applications, where the battery is in the engine compartment, the battery ground is on the engine, with the strap between the engine and chassis. I expect the idea was to minimise the voltage drop on the return.
