I watched the webinar for vvti and noticed when you were doing the WOT Dyno runs at 10,20,30 deg cam timing you didn't adjust your VE table. I thought changing the cam degrees will affect the AFR.
You're right, changing the cam timing will affect the VE and hence the air fuel ratio will also change. When adjusting the cam timing we want to also watch the air fuel ratio and make sure that when we're doing runs it is still in a safe ballpark. There's no point trying to perfectly tune the VE table though at this point until we have our cam timing correct.
You do need to be careful though because as the cam timing moves towards the optimum angle, the VE will increase and hence the AFR will move lean. If I begin a run and find the AFR is leaner than I'm comfortable with, I'll simply abort the run and make the necessary changes. This webinar was simply a quick demonstration of how we can overlay the cam timing to find the optimal angle.
