Hello everybody, i am Jerry from Morrison Colorado, I built some vintage vw custom bugs when I was a kid and now have built up a 99 Tacoma 4x4 3.4 5VZ over the years. Just replaced my TRD supercharger with a magnuson TVS 1320, 450cc injectors, lightweight crank pully, clutch fan delete, throttle body spacer, URD tensioner pulley n 58 mm charger pulley, Volant closed box cold air intake with 6x6 hole mod in fenderwell, TBA headers ( modified) ,Borla 2 1/2 " cat back exaust. I had a tuner in Denver that built a basemap from scratch then followup fine tuning that was a first for him for the 5VZ motor which he did a good job on just a couple of issues concerning cold start issues with long first crank with no start then second crank it starts. I will make another post later with all the details in the tuning section. Anyone with experience tuning on the 5VZ could be of help.

This is unlikely to be a 5VZ specific issue and is more likely just a general cold start tuning issue. The first place to start is to ensure that the VE table is correctly calibrated, particularly in the idle areas. From here it is a case of adjusting the cold start parameters to suit your engine. Generally i find the default values should be good enough to be in the ball park, however in some instances they may need further adjustment. I'd be specifically looking at the 'Cranking', 'Post Start' and 'Coolant Temp Correction' parameters. There are gold member webinars on adjusting these if you want further information. I find that a good way of addressing these parameters initially is to make a large change so it is easy to assess the affect of the change. Then you can fine tune once you know which direction you need to head in.

Yes thank you Andre, looks like we have the cranking and post start figured out, idle is fluctuating a little, drops down a little but after some high boost runs it seemed to be holding . From what I understand the transient throttle adjustments can help with that. It is showing that it was disabled along with the prime pulse by the previous tuner. We figured this all out on our own. I've learned so much! Any more help would be appreciated. Thank you, Jerry

The cam positioning sensor was deleted too for a trigger issue because of a cutoff issue at 4,000 RPM. Why would he do that?
