Must I get a wide air flow meter to tune a car

im not sure if you are meaning a wideband sensor monitor or an airflow meter. but I will attempt to reply with both in mind,
a wideband sensor measures the air-fuel ratio
it certainly helps to have a wideband sensor monitor although a narrow-band sensor is also able to be used if a wideband sensor is unavailable.
a air flow meter is used to measure airflow into the engine.
in many factory engines and in most cases will give a finer tune than a map referenced engine.
