Yes it's common to use reduced torque request near redline on Subarus, which reduces both throttle and boost, prior to hitting the limiter. For what it's worth, that's how the stock tune works on many Subarus.
Depending on the power level, you'll need more or less torque reduction, and you'll need to adjust when you start the reduction and how quickly it ramps in, to get to the limiter more softly. Doing this per gear helps since the ramp rate varies per gear.
Be careful to make your adjustments in a manner that doesn't cause violent oscillation as the engine hits the reduction, then drops down out of it and ramps right back into it.
