Hi there..

i recently just bought the Reflashing Course.. i am alittle confuse regarding the torque limiter, i see some reflashing software has some torque limiter for like gear changes and etc, i was wondering how does the ecu get this torque reading? is there a sensor in the engine providing this information ?

Cheers

The torque value is calculated by the ECU. The complexity of this calculation will depend on the ECU you're tuning but for example mass airflow, AFR and ignition timing vs MBT timing will be taken into account. This is why you will quite often finds that a factory ECU has an MBT spark advance table as well as a regular ignition advance table that's actually sued to deliver the ignition timing to the engine.

Hi andre..

i'm starting to get it now, so you mean the factory engine calibrator have created best MBT timing for the engine but uses the torque limited to control the poor fuel quality of different countries..

The MBT timing table tells the ECU where MBT timing is at a particular load/rpm point. The actual ignition timing though might be somewhat different depending on fuel quality etc. The ECU then calculates the current engine torque based on how far away from MBT the timing is. Of course the ignition timing is only one input in the torque equation though.
