So I'm running a link G4+ Xtreme, from around 2014. I have CAN enabled and will have the CANBUS output fitted as in the right of the photo.

Since its an older ECU, I am not sure how functional the CAN systems are? My fan is currently setup on Aux 2 output, but I was hoping to change all my ECU outputs to CAN, to limit the amount of input wires required for the PMU and have less wires running under the dash.

Will it be easy for me to setup the fan output over CANBUS? Same goes for fuel pump on signal. Only data I really need is an on signal, I still plan to use the ECU to control when they turn on rather than the PMU.

If needed I am running two CAN switchboards, I still have a couple of digital inputs spare on one. So I can wire AUX 2 to this if I fail with the CAN. But the plan was, CAN comes from the Link, then SB behind Console, then SB behind Dash, then into the PMU.

Yes you can do what you describe. The main limitation with G4+ is there are no options to send GP PWM outputs via CAN, but most common stuff is possible. I suggest posting on the Link Forum for quicker help in future. There are plenty of G4+ to PMU example files on there. Here is one example: https://forums.linkecu.com/topic/20848-xtreme-to-ecumaster-pmu16/#findComment-120316

Hi Adam, thats great, Thanks for the reply. So long as it can be done I am happy to go ahead with my plans. I will sort out the software side of things when the time comes.

I am considering whether it is worth it over just using the switch signal from the DTM2 connector that already comes off my loom (Prior to this upgrade ran to my relay/fuse box) and feeding those into one of my CAN switchboards to then communicate to the PMU?

Is it worth adding the CAN output just to save running 2 wires 1m into a board? Of course that does take away 2 of my 8 digital inputs.

Could I also ask, can the CAN output on the G4+ be used for a CANChecked CAN Gauge? Or is it too basic?

Sending signals via CAN saves both outputs on the ecu end and inputs on the PDM end, both of which are usually valuable resources to have spare so I would tend to go that way.

Yes the CANchecked gauge is fine for all the common channels as well as a few less common ones and can receive the "CAN switches" from the gauge. https://www.canchecked.de/wp-content/uploads/connection-guide_LinkECU_G4Plus.pdf

Thanks again Adam.

Yes, the main reason I am doing it was to save my 24 valuable channels. Especially on the PMU24 as you have very limited inputs before you start stealing outputs. I am however ok for inputs as other than Acc switch, Ignition switch, start request, wiper park and one or 2 others all the rest will be input via CAN from one of my two CAN Switchboards. I still have space left on the one below the console so its easy to wire to that. It wouldn't work for me without them, even using a Mux switch on one to get even more inputs.

However if you are confident that setup via CAN from the G4+ will be easy, then I shall continue to go this route.

Great to hear the Can checked Gauge will work, will be great to have one gauge that can display any data not already available on one of my regular ones.
