Connector for console / dash electronics

I need a two pin connector that would be use on the interior of the vehicle. I'm working on a design which goes in the ceiling console. This device is 350mA at 14.5V, I want to spec the connector for 1A at 14.5V though so I have a safety margin.

The Deutsch DT connectors I'm looking at per the wiring fundamentals course appear to be weather sealed. I don't need a weather sealed connector. I need a two pin connector for the interior of the vehicle.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Based on those specs, I’d personally lean toward the Deutsch DTMN series.

They’re a compact, non-sealed connector, so they’re well suited to interior applications where you don’t need the bulk or sealing of a DT/DTM connector. They also use the same size 20 contacts as the Deutsch DTM series, so the terminals and tooling are easy to source if you already work with Deutsch connectors.

They can be a little harder to find than the sealed DT/DTM range, but they are available from a few suppliers. For example:

Lots of head room amp wise but I think they would suit quite well.

@caleb, Would you suggest using stamped terminals when using the DTMN connectors?

Personally, I tend to stick with the solid contacts.

That said, if you don’t already have the tooling for solid contacts, there’s no issue using stamped contacts. Solid contacts generally give a nicer crimp, with four-point compression from each direction, but as long as the stamped contacts are crimped correctly and not over or under-crimped, they’ll still be perfectly reliable.

Long story short, it really comes down to what tooling you already have on hand, and whether you do enough DTM crimps to justify buying the solid contact tooling.

Is there anything to support the wire from strain with the DTMN connectors? The DTM connectors have a wire seal that helps with this.
