Still learning tuning and looking for some guidance before I start chasing my tail.

I swapped a 2019 6.4 Scat Pack engine into a vehicle still running the factory 5.7 PCM and calibration. The engine starts, idles, and drives surprisingly well, but it's definitely not perfect.

Current symptoms:

  • Slightly rich
  • Fuel smell from the exhaust (Am catless)
  • Occasional hiccups/surges
  • Doesn't feel as smooth as I think it should
So far I've corrected injector data including Fuel Mass vs PW and PW vs Fuel Mass based on the 6.4 information I had available.

Ive started logging drive recordings using the course provided hemi scan settup. I see the O2's are trying to trim the fuel. (I am using 6.4 injectors)

My biggest question is figuring out what I should be focusing on next.

Since the engine is obviously moving more air than the original 5.7, how do you guys determine whether you're looking at:

  • VE/modeling issues
  • Injector characterization issues
  • Torque model issues
  • Something else entirely
I've heard everything from "just tune the 5.7 file" to "copy a bunch of the 6.4 calibration over," and I've also been told copying 6.4 parameters into a 5.7 file can create a lot of problems. (which ive have reviewed the error list approx 10 tables dont transfer due to mismatch of tables.

For those who have actually tuned one of these combinations, what would be the first things you'd look at in a log?

Trying to learn the logic behind the calibration instead of just blindly copying tables. Any advice is appreciated.
