what are your guys opinions on using a strain knob vs a box with a cut switch built in??
usually the strain gauge is adjustable in the ECU software, but the switches require mechanical adjustment. Which is easier? Which is easier during a pit stop?
Oh, and you'll typically be able to log the strain gauge force -- another handy tool.
I've used both and either option can work well. I used a microswitch on the sequential lever of my old EVO drag car and never had an issue. I now use a Motorsport Systems strain gauge gear lever in our Toyota 86 which is excellent. The strain gauge is able to distinguish between up shifts and down shifts and it also allows the cut point (amount of force) to be set in the ECU. The strain gauge however is significantly more expensive.
