Just because they're new doesn't mean that they are right. I rebuilt my 300zx twin turbo engine with all the necessary machine work- heads/ block/crank etc.

Forged pistons /rods ,race bearings cams etc. New timing belt and genuine oil & water pumps genuine belt tensioner- all good -for a few thousand Km's. Then going home after work one day turned the corner got 300meters down the road a burring noise , engine cut out. On trying to restart I realised there was no compression- we all know that sound. On dismantling front of engine found timing belt had stripped teeth. Found bolt that holds pulley on factory tensioner had come out and fallen -jamming at back of crank belt pulley causing stripped teeth and grooving of sprocket teeth. No warning. Now the bolt that had come out was one that comes in place from the factory. So on getting new parts and tensioner I removed the bolt and refitted it with loctite. Had to replace all the valves - 24 of them -so put in 1mm oversize at the same time. I was very lucky that the forge pistons weren't damaged. So the lesson is just because a part is new - measure it and check all even when its assembled - remove bolts on the assembled new part- Loctite and retention.

I think the valuable (yet expensive) lesson here is to never assume and always double check everything yourself.
