I've been street tuning my cars for years and would like to learn how to operate a load-bearing dyno to find MBT at part throttle, etc. Are there courses or videos out there that walk you through using some of the more common load-bearing dynos? I understand the theory, but not actual nuts and bolts and operating the dyno software, etc.

Thanks for any advice.

I haven't seen anything specifically on operating dynos in HPA yet but one of the best places to start is with the Dyno manufacturer. Most manufacturers provide a demo version of their software and a user's manual for free upon request. I think you will find that as long as you understand what you're trying to accomplish with the dyno, the technical aspect of operating it is very simple.

You should just ask the person you are renting the dyno from for some basic instructions, since this will be the first time with their dyno. I have operated my dyno for other tuners, who after they understood my dyno arranged to rent / operate the dyno themselves.

I've rented dyno time for myself a couple times, and a couple different dynos. Each owner has their own way of doing things.

The first place calibrated the wheel speed for me, and then showed me how to adjust the rpm set point, and let me doing all the steady state entirely on my own. Then when I wanted to switch to full load runs, he switched it over for me, and ran it for me while I did those runs.

The second place I used, they preferred to run it all for me. I sat in the car and did all the tuning myself, but every time I wanted a different rpm, I just asked them to change it for me, so he was standing outside the car the whole time.

^Wow. Thanks, DynoDoug. Obviously, I'm a newbie with the search tools here. Thank you.
