What kind of triggering errors will I encounter and how much should I increase the filtering by for different kind of errors ?

For crank triggers, usually the errors are either missing pulses (in which case reducing any filtering should be tried), or extra pulses (generally electrical noise from some source like coils or pumps), in which case increasing filtering may help.
