Hey Andre on the subject of bearing clearances, I am also putting a 4g63 motor together for drag looking at around 10500 RPM and 1000 WHP. Seeing this is right up your alley what would your recommended main and rod clearances be?

Also what’s your take on the ring gaps for that power level on Q16? We are using Total Seal conventional ring set which calls for .008” per inch of bore on both top and second rings.

Hey Mahlon, personally I used clearance of 0.002" on the big ends and 0.0025 on the mains. I don't use total seal rings so I can't comment specifically on their requirements or their material. 0.008" however seems a little on the large side. I'm always reluctant to make recommendations on a ring that I haven't personally used. To give you some idea, with the JE rings I used I was around 0.006" per inch of bore but this was a methanol engine. We made 1166 whp on 54 psi boost.

Thanks much Andre, was very kind of you.
