I have a customer looking for flames on upshift and decel pop. I have achieved this through increasing the VE tables and retarding ignition in vacuum. Is there any harm that can be done to a motor by lowering ignition timing in vacuum areas right before the rev limiter and decel? In these areas the car started with a factory tune of 50 degrees timing and I am at about 20 in the areas I've changed. The VE table went from 60% in these areas to about 85%. Will retarded ignition increase heat in the motor in any way?

I'd also like to add that this vehicle has no mufflers/catalytic converters so damage to those are not an issue.

I can't see the changes you've mentioned being enough to cause any issues. It's fairly common on race engines to at least use over fuelling on over run to help with cooling with no down sides.

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
