5 Devices + 1 Box = Industry Game Changer? | Haltech Nexus R5 Unboxing [UNBOXING]

Here's an ECU, PDM, datalogger, oscilloscope and a wideband controller, all in one unit. Wait....what?!

In this week’s [UNBOXING] Zac walks us through the unboxing of the recently released Haltech NEXUS R5 which we like to refer to as being the Swiss Army Knife of ECUs/VCUs (vehicle control units).

Covered is what is included in the box with the NEXUS R5, the use and application of it and the long and impressive list of features that it packs, including Wifi connectivity, multiple ports and AMP Superseal 1.0 and Deutsch DTP connectors (and a USB C port, nice touch Haltech!) as well as the built-in PMU/PDM and data logger.

Zac also runs through the high current RadSok connectors with some tips on the crimping tool-type he would use for these with the 50mm2/1 AWG along with the physical construction of the NEXUS unit.

On the ECU side of things, the feature list is solid with 12 ignition outputs enabling the unit to be used with any number of cylinders up to a V12 using sequential firing, as well as 18 injector drivers giving a lot of flexibility around staged injection options. The ability to run a dual DBW throttle setup and 2 dedicated knock and wideband control inputs help round off a few more features that lend themselves well to V configurations without the need to add external modules.
We're happy to report one thing that has also been improved upon when directly compared to the Elite line of ECUs is the connection time according to our personal testing which while only a small annoyance is one that won't be missed.

Included is also the ability to log 150 channels of data at 1kHz with 512MB of onboard space, automatic transmission control along with the PDU/PDM features that include 12 x 8A and 4 x 25A outputs which are software definable and allow PWM operation. Why do you want a PDU? Zac also has you covered on some of the advantages which included a lower cost for a more simplified wiring loom.

Not discussed here but also featured within the NEXUS is an onboard 4 x channel oscilloscope which can help in many situations from setup to troubleshooting.
