"You Don’t Want 1,000 HP on the Street” - Featured Image

Could you swap a turbo over in 30 mins or less to go between 800hp and 1500hp for street vs track?

Herman from Platinum Racing Products walks us through the thinking behind his personal Nissan RB26 street build, including how he’s achieving true 3.0L capacity using a short deck block with a 79 mm crank and 90 mm bore combination. This approach avoids the fitment and rod ratio issues found in the traditional RB30 block while maintaining drivability and strength for both street and track use.

To make that work, the custom block casting adds 2.65 mm of deck height and is paired with a cylinder head designed to support large cam profiles and 90 mm bores. That includes 35 mm VR38-style buckets, raised exhaust ports, and combustion chamber shaping to reduce cracking issues in high-stress areas. Mechanical fuel delivery is handled using dual Kinsler pumps, with a dual-rail layout to blend ethanol and methanol under load. A wide journal crank option from Callies is also under development, giving more flexibility for different bottom-end setups.

The engine currently sits on a dyno in baseline trim to allow back-to-back testing against Platinum’s new billet block and head combo, with the goal of validating flow, pressure and power data under controlled conditions.
