TCM Preparation

03.53

00:00 All right now we're into step two of our tuning process and we're going to be looking deeper into the transmission side just for things like limits or base settings that we can handle up front because we know we want to alter them.
00:12 So, in this particular case I'm just going to check for some torque limits and here I see that the torque converter clutch has a max torque limit at 738.
00:24 Certainly not going to be achieving that.
00:28 Other than that let's see max shift torque 6,000 well out of the way and this looks okay to start.
00:44 I'll discuss this a bit more later.
00:49 Let's just check a few other tabs make sure we don't have limits hidden anywhere else.
00:57 All good there shift general you know simple easy.
01:05 All right so next we're going to take a look and I'm going to show you where you might want to change your tire or rear gear settings.
01:16 So, we'll go here and on this particular vehicle those items are stock.
01:23 When you're setting up your dyno if it's a hub dyno and you need to know the final drive ratio you can find it right here.
01:28 So, 2.92 in this case.
01:31 Our tire size 2110 millimeters.
01:36 This is a circumference you can see it's labeled there.
01:40 All right so we've made our setup changes that cover steps one and two.
01:44 We're going to go ahead and turn the key back on.
01:49 I'm going to write the calibrations back to the vehicle.
01:56 I believe we made some changes on both the ECU and the TCM side so I'm going to write both this time and let's go ahead and do that.
02:07 As you'll see this is going to be a much quicker process than the initial read in tire and that's again because we're only writing the calibrated portion of the file only the things that we've changed much quicker.
02:19 The HVAC popped on when it switched modules there so I was just turning it back off.
02:25 Anything you can do to avoid draining the battery during this process try to turn it off.
02:35 We want to have the ECU and TCM powered up and happy and functioning but we don't necessarily need the fan on or headlights or anything like that.
02:48 You're probably going to hear a bunch of dinging.
02:50 There's going to be a bunch of errors in the cluster during the reading and writing process.
02:56 Not to worry it should all be cleared out when the process completes.
03:01 If you're going to be operating the vehicle two-wheel drive on the dyno or sometimes even four-wheel drive on a dyno you might run into a situation where you get some either ABS or stability control, traction control, perhaps all of the above, warning lights in the dash and that commonly occurs when the vehicle notes that either you're only spinning the rear tires, only spinning the fronts, or there's a significant speed imbalance for a period of time and it may store those for a bit while you're on the dyno.
03:35 Generally speaking when you're done tuning get out on the road and drive a little bit all that will go away on its own.
03:43 All right so the write is completed.
03:45 I'm going to close this and we are ready for step three.

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
