I'm in the process of looking at the existing sensors on my engine and determining what pins they would be connected to a MoTeC M150.
There's a few that were pretty easy to work out (i.e. all pressure sensors seem to be Analogue Voltage inputs, temp sensors = Analogue Temp Input), but I've got a bunch of other random stuff that I'm also trying to identify.
For example, I have a coolant level sensor which is a 2-pin reeds sensor. I have this information "When the engine coolant is at normal operating level, the float inside the surge tank will rise, the magnet in the float will cause the reed switch contacts to close, pulling the ECU supplied voltage low. When the coolant level is low, the float will fall, the reed switch contacts will open, causing the PCM voltage signal to go high."
1. What's the best way to educate myself so I can determine how to wire up these sensors, switches and other components (e.g injectors, ignition coils, etc.) correctly?
2. Does someone potentially have documentation for a a MoTeC ECU to LS harness / pin out?
For a switch, you would use a DIG or UDIG input. This can then be configured as a Driver Swtich and the dash can detect the state. Normally, I would not wire that to the ECU, but would instead wire that to a Digital or Speed input on the dash.
One of the best ways to educate yourself on M1 connections is to start with M1 Tune and configure it for what you want to do. So for a pressure sensor, you will find that you can use Analog Voltage, Analog Temps, CAN inputs, etc. For Ignition and Injectors you will only see certain inputs and you configure which ones to use for each cylinder. When you are done with your configuration, the Help->Firmware Wiring will show you exactly where everything needs to be connected. it's a great starting point for your harness design.
You should also seek out the M1 ECU Hardware pdf as this has the pinouts and descriptions of the input characteristics of each input type.
