I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are any aftermarket ECMs available that are capable of controlling a direct injected common rail V8 diesel without using another module to fire the solenoids on the injectors. With high pressure direct injection becoming more popular in gasoline powered engines these days, I assume there is hardware capable of what I am looking for already out there, but I have never messed with replacement ECMs from the aftermarket before. I have been tuning factory ECMs with EFILive software for several years, but the factory equipment is not capable of some of the things I want to do in the future. I would like to make a switch to something with more capabilities. Thanks.

I haven't had anything to do with CRDI engines on aftermarket ECUs as yet. One of the few options I'm aware of comes from Motec with their new M1 diesel package. Specifically the M142 will handle 8 cylinder engines. You can check out some information here:

Depends if the injectors are solenoid or piezo. Most aftermarket DI computers drive solenoid injectors. If you have piezo injectors then the Motec product is the M141.

Hi Josh,

Which engine specifically are you wanting to control? If it is the Toyota V8 there should be a targeted package released soon.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I'll check out Motec. The specific engine I'm working on is a 6.6L Duramax from a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, commonly called an LBZ.

Edit: they are solenoid injectors.
