With the trigger offset my advice is to forget about the information you have as it's quite likely to be misleading you - Simply adjust the trigger offset until the timing light shows you the same timing value as the laptop.

The way the offset value is calculated varies from one ECU to another and also will vary between trigger modes. For example in the G4+ if you're using an OE mode then the trigger offset 'should' be relatively close to zero - Note that it still won't always be zero though even in these modes. In the multi tooth missing modes the offset is the number of degrees from the tooth after the gap to TDC #1. In this situation you could still be 360 deg out though so may need to adjust the offset by this much. Lastly in a system with a single sync tooth the offset is the number of degrees to TDC after the sync tooth has gone past the sensor.
