Hi folks

I've recently finished my impreza build. and after having a base tune done by a reputable engine tuner I have used the hp academy knowledge from the courses to continue tuning my car for drivability and performance. the car runs a rotated gt3582 and makes around 500 bhp at 1.2 bar of boost. thing Is the fuel quality where I stay is pretty poor and I'm aware ej25s can be prone to knocking at the best of times. I was looking to see if anyone has had experience with VP racing octanium madative to keep there engines a bit safer under boost to avoid issues. im not looking to go mad using an octane booster but instead use it as protection allowing the tune I have to be Conservative rather than on the edge. the product is meant to increase octane by 7 numbers of mixed with 38 litres of fuel. the car is currently tuned on uk 98 Oct unleaded but was hoping to add this and removed the risk of det killing the car when temps increase at WOT.

and advice or fees back would be appreciated

thanks

There are two variants of the additive, the one you mentioned and an UNLEADED version, the first worth "8" numbers and the second "7". If you're running a lambda this may be an important distinction.

The second point is that if you're going by imperial (UK) gallons that would be ~8.3 gallons.

I would expect you to use some form of detonation control in the ECU mapping, but if not then this seems to be one of the better products out there for when the fuel isn't as advertised, or you can't get what you need - that should not be taken as an endorsement, though.

As an aside - I understand (might be wrong) that part of the problem with those engines is the cooling of the rear cylinders, and there is a mod' available which helps?

Hi Gord

thanks for your response. yes I have heard about the cooling mod which is something that I am looking into. its the unleaded variant that I intend to use.

The car uses the oem subaru knock detection system which is known for not really being the best. that's why I have tried to be Conservative with my tuning. The ignition timing I use isn't very aggressive which probably looses power but the fuel up here isn't great (Scottish Highland) this will be used as a preventative measure to make the map nice and safe

Ah, I was born and bred in the Highlands, a very long time ago - a small village just south of the old Caithness-Sutherland border.

haha its a very small world indeed. I am situated just outside of thurso. but the best fuel I can get is 98 Oct but it sits for that long it concerns me that it may drop octane and result in det happening sooner than I planned. do younthink this would be a suitable stop gap to keep my car safe until I get some money saved for a flex fuel setup and some methanol? I currently run a link g4+ and I'll the logs show the car running sweet. just trying to play it safe as most of us do maybe add a touch more timing to keep egt's down a wee bit more

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
