Various Engines Vs cam degreeing tools

Am to degree a camshaft on a VW engine. Do these cam degreeing tools vary depending on an engine or are they constant despite the various engines available. Kindly help me out before I purchase these tools. Any help will be highly appreciated.

If you mean a degree wheel and pointer, piston stop if used, and Dial Travel Indicator(s) then yes, they're pretty much standard for most engines. There are a few engines that will need specialised versions, but the basic tools will suit almost anything you do.

There are plenty of videos on YouTube how to degree an engine - i would check out first if there is one you are taking about.

Good year everyone! I assume i see this post a little late but i work on these engines quite a while now. If this is your first time on this engine you can just borrow different degreeing tool for the specific engine you want to degree. If your work shop is not in europe or you don't have many clients with vw or Audi cars, then i advice you not to spend money on the degreeing tools cause there are many for different VAG engines. Otherwhise is a very good investment. Decide wisely.
