Hi All

I'm looking at designing some adjustable track rod ends for my car and I want to perform some stress analysis. I was going to replace the ball joint with a shaft with thread and a rose joint but was wondering what kind of forces could I expect on the shaft? I've attached an image to show the direction, ie the red arrow.

You can probably start with the vehicle mass, and the maximum cornering forces. From there you can calculate suspension loads based on your suspension geometry. I would think some suspension design software would be helpful for this.

Is it a track bar/link, or a steering link?

If the former, is it a pure link or are there spring, damper and/or ARBloads going through it, too?

Ok so the mass of the car is 1250kg and its a 60/40 split front to rear. So this is 750kg on the front axle and then 375kg per front wheel.

The force to move the wheel statically = friction * gravity * weight so would be, (assuming friction to be say 0.8 for example)

force = 0.8 * 9.81 * 375 = 2943N does this seem about right? also when moving does this value go up or down as there is less friction but a lateral force?
