394HP Turbo FA20, 100k Subs & Budget Aero | Today At HPA [UPDATE 222]

We jump a week back in time here and discuss the prep and changes before the last SIERDC round at Highlands Motorsport Park which included our RC86 producing more power than it ever has and hitting the track on slicks for the first time.
This is the weekly update that comes right before our paid 'Gold Members' only webinar lessons and this week ‘222 | Pro vs Club Level Harness Construction’ was covered. Details on membership below.

Instagram Update: It’s not uncommon these days to find multiple driver controls on the steering wheel of a modern race car so that the driver can make subtle adjustments to the ECU mapping, communicate to the team, or just change gears without taking their hands off the wheel and Andre runs through the setup he saw on the 2018 Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM at the Goodwood Festival of speed.

HPA86: The black 1uz V8 powered Toyota 86 had a few repairs and changes made recently, the most visual of which is our ghetto aero setup. A rear wing has been added along with a front carbon-kevlar coated plywood splitter and some carbon-kevlar canards. While these modifications are something we will put more time into for next season, they have added an immediate performance increase due to the fact the car was running nothing beforehand and back-up what aerodynamicist Andrew Brilliant has mentioned in a previous interview regarding an aero package that makes a difference can start from as little as the cost of a set of tyres.

Along with the aero, our main workshop man Brandon repaired the rear of the car and added a bash bar to protect the fueling setup a little better which is located a little oddly given the primarily street-focused goal of the original build. The rear brake setup is also going under the knife with the brake temps being well within the acceptable range for the pads and discs, but being a little too hot for our CVs.

Lastly, Andre discusses the 1000HP Driveshaft Shop rear axles that have been fitted, and the modifications they have to overcome the limitations of the stock setup.

RC86: The RaceCraft Toyota 86 has also had some updates with MCA coilovers and a traction bracket fitted along with SPL Parts suspension arms. The FA20 ‘ ghetto build’ you might have seen some previous content on hit the dyno and at 0.85 Bar, approx 12 PSI, it almost cracked 400whp which is the most power the car has ever made.

The FA20 is running an AVO turbo kit with a BorgWarner EFR6758 replacing the original supplied turbo. Brian Crower rods have been fitted with ARP headstuds, HKS head gaskets and a Tomei exhaust system. Other than that it’s still running the stock 12.5:1 compression ratio and pistons in part thanks to the fact it is both direct and port injected with E85.

100K SUBS!: Cheers for the support guys! We know we're pretty niche, don't release a lot of content with the usual race and shiny bit footage but we're stoked there are so many people out there who enjoy being as nerdy about what makes performance cars tick as we are.

WEBINAR INFO: While we probably all love scrolling through Instagram feeds full of concentrically twisted motorsport wiring harnesses featuring ultra-expensive Autosport connectors, the reality is that this sort of harness might be expensive overkill for your application. In this webinar, we’ll discuss the differences between a club level and pro-level harness, what materials and costs are involved, and find out why you’d choose one over the other.
