BJ/FJ40 Series V8 Swap Introduction | Today At HPA [UPDATE 241]

Do we have any V8 40 Series Landcruiser fans?
This is Andres update that came right before webinar lesson ‘241 | Tuning for elevation change’. Details on membership below.

0:45 - FJ40/BJ42 project introduction
A while back we purchased a 2f straight 6 petrol-powered FJ40 Toyota Landcruiser, however, while tidy-ish it wasn’t quite what we anticipated once it rolled off the transporter, but luckily a 3B (4 cylinder diesel) powered BJ42 came up for sale shortly after for a price we couldn’t resist which is slightly more original and enjoyable to drive.

With the current situation globally, the trips planned have all been cancelled so while the team is never short of things to do here at HPA Labs it really is the best time we’ll ever have to round off a few projects in house and create content from them in place of our usual travels.

With this in mind, the BJ42 will be getting some ‘upgrades’ to modernise it. At the forefront of this is a Toyota 1uz-fe or 3uz-fe V8 swap, to keep things in the family, and also some coil suspension in place of the original leaf setup. The goal is to have a vehicle that retains some of the classic ‘charm’ a 40 series offers with a bit more comfort and power to drive the 35” rubber it’s now sporting.

11:40 - FD RX7 Update
The DBW setup is complete and ready for testing as soon as some other bits and pieces are finished. The battery has also been mounted in the cabin with the leads coming through the firewall easily, again, thanks to the removal of the A/C system and some AMP RadLoks.

15:57 - Instagram update
Andre talks about the relationship between power and torque and why 5252 is the constant in this calculation.

19:44 - First Vlog video
As above, we’re going to produce some more in-house content and the first [OFF THE RECORD] release is live already. It visits the FD3S RX7 project to give what have been sporadic updates a bit more structure in one hit.
