Upgrading A Ferrari To Handle 1000hp of Honda K24 Power

Some Ferrari engines suck and some OEM designs are flawed, and luckily some people enjoy the challenges that fixing these issues for a Time Attack build brings.

Why not just drop an LS or 2JZ instead of a Honda K24? Can you fabricate a car like this yourself? What tools and resources might help with redesigning suspension geometry and flawed OEM parts designs? Mike Burroughs of StanceWorks has the answers to these questions and more about his Ferrari 244 GTK build.

In this [TECH TOUR] the ex-1981 Ferrari 308 GTBi (121kW at 1451kg stock) has seen some minor and some major changes with the heart being a Haltech controlled Honda K24 & Garrett G42 built with 1000hp in mind solely to trigger some armchair experts, and from there the car will be dialled in at a lower power level which isn't uncommon in the time attack world. We've even done a video on one team going faster with less power that their previous event!

Cooling, a MAJOR oversight by many amateurs and even professional builders is already nailed down with the help of CSF Racing and a tried and tested Quaife Engineering sequential helps get the power to the ground.

Also discussed are the challenges of a transverse layout when it comes to engine swaps & some of the horrible build quality Mike found during the project which led to him diving into things a little deeper than originally anticipated. I guess with issues like that it's no wonder Ferrari doesn't like others working on their cars!

Also importantly Mike touches on the importance of looks vs performance when it comes to the stance scene and how many people ruin the handling characteristics of a car by throwing on a wide body kit without any consideration about their suspension geometry and handling.

Mike also has some really cool advice for learning new skills like he has done with this project. If someone else has learnt a skill, you can too! Mastering it is another story, but getting something 'good enough' is valuable experience too.
