Overalls

02.06

00:00 The next part of our PPE is overalls or coveralls.
00:03 And in reality, for composites work, this is mostly about protecting our clothes from being ruined by resin or dust.
00:09 However, recalling our previous discussions around the reasons for wearing gloves, it's hopefully pretty clear that any other bare skin is likely to be exposed to resin or dust as well, so there's some benefit in covering up as much as possible.
00:24 Overalls are designed to slip on over our regular clothes, and it's important that they fit well and offer complete coverage.
00:30 Depending on the type of work we do often, we'll likely use many of the same PPE items like gloves, glasses, earmuffs and overalls for composite work that we do on other work on a project car.
00:42 However, since our work with composites typically doesn't involve any excessive heat or grinding sparks, we can look at some slightly lighter options when it comes to overalls.
00:52 More specifically, breathable coveralls.
00:54 These often feature a hood and are waterproof, but of course, breathable.
00:58 So, they're a bit more comfortable and lightweight than the typical cotton overalls we usually use when working on our cars.
01:05 The main point here is that these are designed to protect us from chemical splashes, so are commonly used when working with resins and paints.
01:13 If we're comfortable that the risk of any exposure is very low for a particular job, then an alternative is using an apron.
01:20 These are great to have around as they're so easy to put on.
01:23 Finally, a subtle but important consideration with overalls and aprons is the number of pockets offered.
01:29 You can never have too many pockets for rulers, scribes, pens or anything else you might want to keep close at hand at all times.
01:37 A phone, for example.
01:38 The key points to remember here are that when working with resins and cutting composite parts, complete coverage is important to avoid damaging our clothes, but also preventing skin exposure.
01:48 General cotton overalls are a practical option, but we can also use lighter weight breathable coveralls designed specifically for working with chemicals.
01:57 An alternative for light duty work, like basic drilling and trimming of parts, is an apron.
