Hi. I'm building a gti golf for street sprints. I'm wondering what effects good/bad or any, a fake/cosmetic front splitter and rear diffuser have on the car.

Hi Patrick,

sound like an interesting project.

Cosmetic parts tend to be negligible at best and designed for a different use case far removed from motorsports.

The rear diffusers can catch more wind from underneath than they evacuate causing lift for example and are often at stupid angles with no chance of keeping the flow attached so less than useful.

The cosmetic splitters can be useful to help blend the bottom edge of the bumper into an actual splitter and do look better than the typical lawn edging but not much practical use when used in isolation.

General rule of thumb when buying aftermarket aero, if its held on with 3M tape, self tappers or m6 bolts then its not going to do much for you at all, but hey if it looks fast...
