Hey guys! First time tuning a truck and of course it’s a shop truck lol. The truck is an 03 cummins common rail using HPtuners. It has 200% injectors, 6.7 cummins 12mm pump, 2000 bar rail sensor, 178/208 cam and s472.
I’m having trouble getting it to idle, I’ve tried pulling fuel, timing, etc. I feel I’m overthinking it but it just lopes and then dies out. Any suggestions?
Jacob,
There could be many reasons for a lope at idle. Basically what you're experiencing is the ECM is unable to meter fuel correctly so the engine is running erratically. The first place to start is with a data log, verify your actual fuel rail pressure is near desired. I'll assume that you've re-scaled the rail pressure sensor linearization for the 2000 bar FRP sensor. Remember that you cannot 'pull fuel out at idle', the engine will use whatever fuel it needs to idle. By lowering the pulsewidth you're simply forcing the engine to run a higher fuel rate (mm3) which will result in a timing and fuel pressure change. The best thing you can do for the ECM with regard to idle quality is to accurately characterize the injector.
Keep us posted,
Nick
Thanks nick!
i ended up flashing a stock file and adding a little rail pressure, and it idles and cleaned up the smoke. Now on to the bigger journey of making it run correctly while making power.
Thanks for your help!
