Like the theory of stoich being the sweet spot for air fuel ratio... I'm wondering what is the sweet spot for compression? Obviously, we lower compression ratios to accommodate boost. But, we often lower boost to accommodate mechanically higher compression. What is the sweet spot? Why? How might bore to stroke ratio effect that changing?

Hi. Shorter rod usually provides more torque at low rpm whilst longer rod is giving a bit more power up top.

You may be looking at this from the wrond end, or I may be mis-understanding your question?

The "sweet spot" will normally be where the compression ratio, boost if applicable, chamber burn characteristics, fuel octane, etc, align and the timing for peak torque is "just" short of causing detonation and/or compression ignition (dieseling). Change any of those and the "sweet spot" will change.

The trick is, of course, getting the balance right...
