Hi,
I am going to use ARP main bolt for my fa20 engine. In the instruction, it says lubricant the under head of the bolt and the washer, I want to know should I lubricant both side of the washer, or only the face which touches the under head of the bolt?
Yuchen
Hi. I usually apply ARP grease to entire surface on both sides.
Hi Shota, for arp head studs, they ask NOT to apply grease to the face which washer touches the block. That's why I have the question.
What part number are you exactly talking about? They ask not to apply their grease only for Custom age 625+ head studs... Manuals for the rest of their bolts doesn't specify it but tell us to grease all components...
I double checked one of ARP manuals for main studs and didn't find anything about one side greasing...
Hi,ARP doesn't specify that we should't grease the side of washer which touches the engine surface, but on my FA20 head studs manual, they state. And also I checked some videos others install ARP bolts and studs, they don't apply grease of that side too, so I belive we should't do that. Also in engine building lesson, Andrew said 40% of torque wasted on frictions between washer and nut? So we should't add uncontrollable friction between washer and engine?
Hi SHota,
I have emailed ARP about this question, they have confirmed my thought. Here is their reply.
