So when finding MBT using this test, is that the number you use then for your timing if there’s not a large plateau? Or is it for an idea and you still go cell by sell slowly increasing it and watching the torque numbers on the screen? I’m assuming the test is for figuring out if/when you’re knock limited?

If the engine isn't knock limited then provided the engine hasn't got a known mechanical strength issue, you'd use the peak torque timing value (MBT). In many instances however you'll find the engine starts to suffer from knock as you're advancing the timing and still seeing the torque rise. in this case it's best to retard the timing by 2-3 degrees from the onset of knock.
