Dear all,

I‘d appreciate it if you can help me in this issue. what would be the best hoses to use for the wastegates as I used multiple reinforced silicone hoses with heat shield but the heat from the exhaust manifold damages it. So what would you recommend for the wastegates hoses , are there any stainless steel braided hoses that can take the heat and not melt from inside and would I use stainless steel braided hoses with teflon inside or rubber inside, which one will have better insulation and is not prone to failure as this is air flowing and no liquid is inside it. The space is very tight as there are two wastegates and I’m running two dump tubes back to the exhaust so the hoses of the wastegates are pretty close to dump tubes heat.

Could you give a bit more information, such as the brand and designation of the hoses you're using, the insulation, and preferably some pictures of the installation?

You could put some thermal protection over the hoses as well. I have used this for a number of uses, including shielding the waste gate hoses on my car.

Yes, there're quite a lot of options, but without knowing what he's currently using it's hard to know where to start - was his "heat shield" a plate or sleeve, for example?

I used to use HPS hoses and honestly it took a while until this hose had a problem , in my old setup with one wastegate , I never had any problems but now there are two wastegates and the space to run the hoses away from the dump tubes isn’t easy , also I used a sleeve to cover the piping and unfortunately I couldn’t find the HPS hoses in stock here when I was installing this time so I had to use other silicone hoses not as good as HPS . I’ll attach some photos , I couldn’t make it very clear as the car is not on a lift but it will show how close the dump tubes are to the wastegates hoses. From reading from other forums I found that some use stainless steel brake lines and other use stainless steel with teflon inside , so I thought to ask you as I want to solve this once and for all. Good quality silicone hoses are good but they are also prone to failure after some time because of the heat.

Have you considered routing your hoses differently, or relocating your boost control solenoid. They are carrying pressure not volume, so hoses (say 25% longer) won't really affect the operation.

Thank you for the suggestion but it is not easy to reroute because two wastegates with two dump tubes going back to the exhaust , also the downpipe is 3.5 inch and the space is tight, each wastegate getting two hoses , one from the turbo and the other from the solenoid to control the boost after the manual spring pressure has been reached.

Teflon lined stainless, plus heat sheathing, can be used in more extreme conditions, but it's not as inspectable as silicone + heat sheathing since you can't see degradation inside and I feel sometimes it gives a false sense of security.

It sounds like proper silicone hose + sheathing would have survived, is easy to inspect and replace. Maintaining a physical gap from contact is vital, and a tiny amount of airflow can go a long way to keeping these items alive.

Hard lines are another option, but I find if that's needed, the wastegate diaphragm is likely in trouble too, so I look for better placement and airflow first.

Thank you all for your advice. After reading all your suggestions, I think I‘ll go with a good reinforced silicone hose and try to reroute as much as possible away from the dump tubes, I‘ll also wrap the dump tubes so that it doesn’t emit too much heat and finally I‘ll put a heat sleeve around silicone hoses and I hope this will sort it out. Thank you guys for all the help.

Having the manifolds coated, at least in that area, with a thermal barrier will also help.
