Talk about engine building here. New products, tricky questions or showcase your work - If it's engine building related it's welcome here.
Random question for everyone. I recently purchased a set of aftermarket Trick Flow heads for my Mustang build and I noticed that the combustion chambers show the CNC machining marks on them. They are not perfectly smooth. Would there be any benefit at all in smoothing / polishing the chambers?
You would be highly unlikely to be able to measure a difference...the irregularities won't be enough to cause issues with flow or hot spots. Would look prettier though!
I wouldn't bother personally. A smoother chamber surface can help reduce build up of carbon deposits but this is over a time frame that's not relevant to most performance engines as they tend to come apart for a freshen up before carbon build up can really be an issue.
