hi i have an E36 M50 turbo and i have a couple of decent tuners telling me that i dont have to check base timing with my pnp ms2 which has been uploaded with settings for my exact engine, the crank/trigger wheel on these engines are keyed in place so there is no way for the teeth/ to be off so therfore there is no way for timing to be off is there? so although checking is always a bonus techincally i shouldnt be off at all? any confirmation of this would be good thanks,

Don’t assume anything, spend the 5 minutes it takes to put a timing light on it and check it yourself. There are manufacturing tolerances on every part of the system so no two engines will ever be the same. I have even found factory TDC marks more than a couple of degrees out before.
