I'm looking at ECU's for the 2-stroke engine prototype I mentioned in an earlier post, and I wanted to ask about the Motec ECU buying experience, firmware, support, etc. before I take the plunge. Any help would be much appreciated - thanks.
Your relationship will be with the dealer, not typically MoTeC directly. A good MoTeC dealer will be able to understand your project and help you get the necessary pieces to do what you want. It's easy to jump into "buy the hardware" without first understanding the environment it needs to fit within. I would look for dealers that are either local to you, or specialize in the type of engines / racing that you are developing.
These days, most hardware is in stock at MoTeC USA, and can be in your hands relatively quickly. Licenses and feature enable codes are usually available within 24 hours (and if the timing is right, 2 hours or less). So you can defer purchasing that until you need it.
Often the long lead item with be your harness design and build.
Good MoTeC dealers are generally responsive over email / text / phone -- and there is a MoTeC support forum that is monitored by the factory support staff. Again, your dealer can help navigate that on your behalf, but you're welcome to jump to that if you aren't getting satisfaction with your dealer support.
Thanks very much for that info, it's just what I needed. I checked online and found quite a few Motec dealers in the US, I'll start contacting them tomorrow and see what happens. Link and Skynam have been very helpful, hopefully Motec will be too.
