Hey guys, I'm Bailey Kuch and I did your launch control class, but I have a couple questions on tuning for you if it isn't too much trouble!

So, when going through the VE-table on a tune do you need to tune the ignition timing before or after you go throw the VE-table? Also lets say I bore out pistons, different cams, with new injectors, fuel rail and install a large turbo etc... how would I figure out what the recommended stoich AFR is for this engine that has been modified? And lastly when refreshing a stock ECU how do you even get access to the PROM file to tune? That is all, and thank you for your time! I would very much appreciate a reply from you guys!

Hi Bailey,

Particularly when you're learning, I recommend beginning with a conservative ignition map and focusing first on optimising the fuel/VE table. Once you have the AFR on target you can then address the ignition. Of course in some instances you may also want to test at different air fuel ratios to see how the engine responds or if it will accept more timing. This is particularly the case on engines that are knock limited.

The stoich AFR is an aspect of the particular fuel you're using - say pump gas for example is always going to be 14.7:1. If you meant what target AFR should you run, then this comes down to experience with that type of engine, and then testing to see how the engine responds to AFR. I'd suggest taking our understanding AFR course as this will explain a lot to you.

When reflashing a car, you will need a hardware interface that connects your laptop to the OBD2 port. You will also need a software package to read and modify the stock ROM file. There isn't one single package that will work for all cars though so what you need depends on what you're tuning.
