I'd like to know if anyone is using E85 in a boosted combination, non intercooled.

For the last 2 years I've been on knock limited 93 pump fuel and water methanol, non intercooled. I've been able to keep my inlet air temps to around 130* F, at 12 psi and around 600rwhp. I have had some problems with my water methanol distribution and I've decided to add a flex fuel sensor and switch to E85. I'd just like to know if anyone else is having luck with E85 and no intercooler. I would like to fit an an intercooler but packaging an a/a in my available space is impossible and I'm not 100% sure I'd like to make the switch to an air to water setup on my street car. Thanks in advance for any input.

This is something I'm strongly considering for my upcoming personal build as well (I'm just an enthusiast), although I plan to have water methanol injection to go along with pump ethanol. I would think that switching to E85 would be less knock prone than your previous setup of 93 and WMI, unless you were spraying a ton of WMI previously.

What did you end up doing? I'd be very curious to hear your experiences, especially if you switched to E85 without adding an intercooler.

I know of a few people doing this, all of them shoot straight methanol into charge pipe to cool down the charge. I wouldnt recommend it if you dont plan on shooting methanol as well. Alternatively you could get an air 2 water sheetmetal intake manifold made if you decided to go a2w

Sorry guys, I didn't get the notification that anyone had responded to this. I would have to say that my experience with the W/M was unsuccessful. I switched the car over to E85 and only used the w/m for iat reduction. It did in fact reduce the inlet temps. I was injecting pre turbo at 12 psi. Because of the distribution issues I mentioned in the original post and I ended up hurting the same cylinder again. To be honest, I'm still not 100% sure of the actual problem because the car was dyno tuned, with a safe AFR and conservative timing. The plugs always looked great, until the 1 cylinder didn't.

I rebuilt the engine, bought new heads and changed the intake manifold. My injectors were checked, cleaned and flowed and there was no issue with them. I decided to revamp my entire system, ditch the w/m and make room for an intercooler. This has me moving my radiator to the rear of the car this winter, to make room for my 5" downpipe but in the end I know that intercooling it is the best route.

That being said, lots and lots of people have used w/m successfully. I may experiment with it on future projects.
