Hi there, I just built a new high compression Honda K24 engine and am having issue with deciding the knock sensitvity setup.

So far, the engine is running with 12.5cr piston with high profile camshafts so the knock sensor captures more noises. I've set the ignintion timingn really conservatively (22-24 in WOT, 26-28 for half throttle mid range RPM) but still captured a lot of knock events especially in the mid range RPM under half throttle. I suspect they are so-called phantom knocks but, the problem is what's a reasonable increment as I adjust the knock sensitivity table? It's really my first time working on a high compression ratio engine so really need advice. Thanks!

What I would do in that scenario would be to read the plugs. If you don’t have an audio knock detection setup, reading plugs will give you a good baseline for “no knock”, while data logging the knock signal. Depending on the ECM, you should be able to get a good data set in there if you set your thresholds just a little above what you’re seeing during a knock-less run. Also, make sure you’re listening for knock on the correct frequency range. Since knock will occur at a consistent frequency range depending on your bore size, you can pretty easily filter out background noise.
