I'm stuck in a loop. I'm tuning a mazdaspeed 3 with factory direct injection and auxiliary port injection controlled by microsquirt. The load calibration for the factory ecu is MAF based and you cannot do a sd patch on these cars to my knowledge. This is the only way to get the proper fueling without buying a standalone. Here's my issue: we don't want the factory injectors exceeding 85% duty cycle so the only way to keep fueling on point is to scale down the MAF curve from where you start seeing boost or clamp it when your injectors reach 85% in the factory ecu and make up for it in tuner studio. When I scale it down, it effects my load calculations. Load=((grams/s*60)/rpm)*(2/3). So where the factory ecu thought it was pulling 350g/s, it now thinks its pulling 284g/s, and at 5v its scaled down from 650 to 422 so I'm stopping the injectors from going over 85% but turning down the boost at the same time. If i target higher boost, i increase injector duty cycle along with it. I know there is a way to do this, I'm just missing something. does anyone have experience with Versatune for the stock ecu and know how to target boost instead of load? Or is there another way around this?
If anyone is curious, the ecu logic for these cars checks the load target table vs MAP target vs throttle position vs WGDC and lowest denominator wins so if you max out the 2D load target tables for wide open throttle under boost by gear to an unreachable value, the ecu logic will reference your MAP target table and aim for those values. Simple as that. You can leave it there or data log and set your load target values to match the values from what you recorded so the ecu will still reference the baro and temp comp tables against your load values if you plan on not damaging the engine when the car is driven at a different altitude or in the winter.
