I would like to see what I can get out of my 2014 C250 Sport. It's a 1.8L turbocharged M271 engine. I haven't seen many people in the HPA forums do a lot with the MB line.
I'm curious to know what's out there, how difficult they are to work with, and any recommendations. On this vintage engine, the CAM adjusters are known to be problematic after ~100k miles. I don't know if they have improved the design of the adjusters, or if anyone has any recommendations for replacing or upgrading.
I just replaced the adjusters and timing chain. Once I get the engine running, my next goal is to do some road tuning on the engine to see what I can get out of it, as a learning experience and practicing my tuning.
What ECU tuner software do you/would you recommend? I have hear a lot of references to BMW and Porsche in the podcasts, but I haven't heard or seen anyone do anything with the MB line. I'm just stepping into this world, so there's a LOT that I don't know yet.
Thanks in advance.
This isn't a platform I've ever dealt with so I'm not much help sorry. I did a quick look at options and unfortunately it doesn't look like it's supported by mainstream reflash solutions like HP Tuners etc. It is supported via ECM Titanium and WinOLS however these are more aimed at professional shops and wouldn't make sense to tune one car. My search showed up that there are 'stage 1' reflashes for it that give you supposedly another 30-40 hp. That isn't a 'tune it yourself' solution but might be an option if you're more interested in the result than. the process.
It 'may' be possible to wire in a standalone ECU as a piggy back to keep all the other modules happy. Without knowing more about the car I suspect this could still be problematic as it's almost certainly going to be a torque based ECU. Even if you go down that route it would almost certainly require the ability to disable a bunch of inevitable DTCs that will come up with the piggyback installed.
Fantastic. Thanks Andre. I really appreciate the guidance. This level of work is not something I'm interested in, so I'll probably just stop here, and find a more practical vehicle for tuning.
