Hi everyone,

how do reflash tuners know what the maximum of boost a turbocharger can handle without breaking? Because most of the time there is no compressor map available and no compressor speed sensor installed.

Let´s say we have a modified Ford Fiesta ST 200 with no restriction in the exhaust anymore and also the induction system big enough to not end up with turbo surge, how does he knows how far to go if the engine can handle boost without issues?

Thank you

If you can give a few more details on your vehicle - any info on the chassis plate/VIN or anything on the turbocharger, it might help, but from what I have been able to find, there's almost no spec' s on-line?

It's possible it's a Continental RAAX low-inertia turbocharger, possible model CM5G-6K682-HB, but without any hard info' it's going to be hard to find anything.

In practice, you may be restricted to trying increased boost levels until there's no improvement in torque and/or power. That said, you may run into other restrictions first, like intake temperatures due to insufficient charge coolintg, fuelling limitations, etc.

have a good look over what the vehicle is capable of monitoring - there may be some helpful data there.

Dany,

This webinar will hopefully give you a bunch of related info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dca43nEWEys

Aside from boost level and turbo shaft speed, the max torque the engine and drivetrain can safely handle is another important consideration. With what's likely a relatively small turbo you can often generate more torque than the engine can handle if you run the boost up high enough at low/mid RPM, and then on the top end cooling becomes more of a concern.
