Hello forum,
Just a quick back story about myself, so you know what kind of person you are dealing with here - I am a complete amateur. Like 0 skills. Barely touched a wrench and the only thing I've done so far on my car is to replace some lightbulbs/LEDs on my dashboard and change the air filters.
I bought a Lexus IS200 2002 (1G-FE) 7 years ago that I am still driving. Unfortunately I've got tricked by the previous owner that the engine was in very good condition, however after a few months I've noticed that there's an oil leak from the head gasket. Went to a guy who was working as a mechanic and was driving the same model Lexus himself. He told me that often the head cover of these models get "warped" (I think that's what you call it) with time and I have to replace it with the head gasket, which will fix the issue. We did that, but oil being burnt and leak, so I've decided to leave it as it is and just to refill the oil whenever is needed.
Fast forward till today - I kept driving like that since that day, have over 100k km and had never experienced any issues with the engine itself. I've changed the water pump and the timing belt (+pulleys) few months ago and everything seems to be fine.
I've bought the engine building course of HPA and for some reason suddenly I thought that I want to do a full rebuild of the 1G-FE engine - bring it to a machine shop and prepare it for a turbocharger, as long as the guys from the machine shop confirm that the block and the head are okay to do so.
Because I am an amateur, I've decided to buy another used 1g-fe engine that I can use as a practice mockup, so that I learn how does the 1g-fe looks from inside and have a better understanding of the engine itself before start working on the one of my own car.
However because I am stupid enough, the engine I've bought is not a complete one, but rather what you'd call a "long block" I believe.
It has no:
Fuel system accessories
It's just block+head+internals and an oil pump (I think). It was pretty cheap but I guess that's the reason why.. I understand that I can't really start the "mockup" engine in this state.
The question I have is - can someone tell me what are the parts that I need to start this engine on an engine stand? And is this actually possible?
The reason I want to do that is to know if I have reassembled the engine properly.
I am aware that many would consider what I am trying to do as stupid and probably a huge waste of money, however I am really interested and invested to learn.
And another question is - if anyone knows where I can get a good quality of forged internals for 1G-FE engine, I'd be happy you if you share that information with me. Mind you I live in Bulgaria, but as long as there's international shipping I am willing to get the parts as long as they are worth it.
English is not my native language, so please excuse my grammar and sorry for the long post. First time writing in a forum. :/
Any help/info will be highly appreciated!
Regards,
Vicho
