Why did we need to find true TDC if we did not use that reference after?
You need to find the true TDC in order to correctly align the camshaft lift points, it's timing, to the crankshaft. If it's not correct, not only will you be losing torque/power, but there is a very good chance of mechanical interference between the valves and the pistons, which will damage both, if the valves are opened at the wrong time.
Later you will need it for mapping, especially if downloading them from tuners who developed them on other vehicles, because otherwise the ignition timing will be impossible to accurately set.
