Hello I am new in the sense that I have not tuned a car yet and I am trying to comprise a list of equipment that I will need to do the job. I have the following on my list so far:
Laptop
Knock detection equipment, Looking at the Link G4+ knockblock
the software will depend on what I end up tuning.
Cant afford a dyno but am aware its not completely necessary.
Is there anything I am missing or any pointers to getting start that anyone could would be helpful.

I think it entirely depends on the type of work you are doing. For example, if you are installing & tuning stand-alone ECUs, then you need a Timing Light, perhaps an oscilloscope (some stand-alone ECUS like MoTeC and Link, have a function in the software that can work), volt-ohm meter.
But if you are re-flashing stock ECUs, then you need the appropriate OBD-II adapter for the software and an adequate laptop -- maybe a wideband Lambda sensor that can attach to the tailpipe.
It's worthing searching for dyno's in your area and introducing yourself to the folks that operate them.
Thank you for the reply. I unfortunately am not in a area where I can find a lot of shops that have dyno tuning. I wont be installing or performing any type of physical work, just the tuning of the ECU once it is ready to be tuned. I am in a wheelchair so my physical abilities are limited but I don't mind helping the owner of the car with advice on how to get the car ready for tuning. I will be looking to tune anything for the most part whether it be reflashing or standalone tuning.
Do you have a wideband that you would recommend? Also, aren't the tailpipe versions not always the most accurate?

Since I have a dyno, and often have to use a tailpipe adapter -- I learn to ignore it at idle unless I can block the end of the tailpipe somewhat to prevent fresh air being drawn in -- usually not a problem at 2000 - 2500 RPM or more . Someday, I will make an adapter with a small air pump and a long hose to stick up the tailpipe. I believe DynoJet or perhaps Mustang Dyno has something like that -- you could build your own. The idea is to draw samples from inside the exhaust that are't affected by the fresh air found near the tailpipe exit.

Do you know what Dynos are a little more affordable? I was looking into mainline pro hub dynos for there versatility and being able to move them when you need to, but they 101K before shipping from Australia I am Not ready to purchase one unless if the price was very affordable, but I knew its precision instrument and therefore spendy especially new.

There are other less expensive dynos, but set your minimum standard as one that can do load control (i.e. hold a steady speed/RPM that is programmed).
I've been happy with the Plex Knock Monitor (mine is the V2 version with 2 sensors and CAN output). These come up used occassionally.

I will hopefully have equipment soon and be able to start tuning here soon. I am also looking at trying to find a local shop that will take me on as a apprentice of some sorts. The state agency I am working with is willing to compensate the company for having me there so hopefully I will find something soon.
