Tell us a little about you. What cars you are interested, where you are from and why you are interested in learning to tune.
Hello, my name is Michael. My love for cars has always been there, but it really took shape in college when I joined FSAE while earning my degree in Mechanical Engineering. Through FSAE, our team regularly attended local autocross events, which is where I truly fell in love with the sport.
Unfortunately for me, I also fell in love with Subarus, which means I spend a lot of time in the garage working on them. All that time spent, along with owning a 2006 WRX STI, a 2002 WRX, and a 1990 Mazda Miata, ultimately led me here. More recently, I’ve started getting into rallycross, which has opened up an entirely new and vast world of learning.
Tuning can feel overwhelming. Watching and copying the fast drivers only gets you so far, especially when you’ve seen incredible drivers succeed in cars with objectively poor setups. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t rely on raw talent, so if I can use engineering and data to improve, at least I can’t blame the car anymore....
I’m currently taking the suspension class and plan to follow it up with the tuning class as well. Blessed to be here. MO
