Discussion and questions related to the course PDM Installation & Configuration
Good day HPA team ,
Any chance you can discuss how to configure a std ignition barrel through the PMU vs CAN start button ?
Hi Tony, sorry I'm not completely clear what you mean? If you're referring to using the ignition barrel to trigger the PMU to run the starter motor then that's relatively straight forward. You'd just need to find the output from the barrel that goes to 12V in the crank position and wire that to a digital input on the PMU. From here you'd need to configure the PMU to recognise a high state on this input as 'ON'. Once you have that being recognised by the PMU you can program an output to operate the starter motor.
You could also add a CAN input from a keypad or similar to function the starter if desired and have the option to use either the key or a start button. You'd need to add some logic around a timer for the starter output so it doesn't crank indefinitely. I usually set up a max time of say 5 seconds and then have an rpm input that will disable the output once rpm exceeds say 500 rpm.
