I’m using my 03 Cummins for my first attempt at a tune, I’ve adjusted my injector pulse width 15% and upped my commanded fuel along with any other safety’s that may be in the way. The truck is bone stock so it still has the mechanical wastegate turbo, my main question is how do I correctly tune without having any boost adjustment? Assuming I just use the tune I created it will just blow a bunch of black smoke because I have no way to increase air? It’s the low output version and has just a banks cold air and 4 inch exhaust so it’s only making around 240 hp.

this is also my first tune ever so hopefully I adjusted the right fuel tables. This truck is super simple compared to even the 2005 duramax used as the practical example on here.

Sounds like you're on your way Isaac. The easiest way to increase boost on one of these older trucks is to swap the wastegate canister or dampen the signal to the can itself. We at Duramaxtuner have a billet can assembly with a variety of spring pressure options specifically designed for the HE341cw turbo. We'll be listing as a kit soon. You can see it here on our CW70. Alternatively you can use a boost increase valve from turbosmart.

Upgrading the canister and spring is ideal because it improves the wastegates ability to resist drive pressure spikes - improving spoolup response.

Perfect, thanks for the response. Am I safe to load in a conservative tune for now or should I leave it alone? Pretty sure this thing is de-tuned enough from the factory it has room to move as far as fuel goes haha.

Load it up, if you see grey haze under load you need more boost. Pretty easy platform to learn on. :)

Thanks nick!
